Professional Exchange Visit Series: The Outstandingly Awesome World of Sales at NetSuite

The ability to sell is a business skill foundation, and on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 18th, a group of about 10 professionals joined the Business Development Team at NetSuite for an informative session on how the company interviews candidates to gauge the potential to excel in this skill and develops the future leaders of the organization once they arrive.

NetSuite has established itself as the leading provider of enterprise-class cloud financials/ERP suites for divisions of large enterprises and mid-sized organizations. Since founding the company in 1998, the company has grown to locations in 10 countries with over 2400 employees. It now serves clients such as Groupon, Johnson & Johnson, and the Girl Scouts.

The interview process questions candidates on four key areas: sales, horsepower, patterns of behavior, and cultural fit. It was a unique behind the scenes look at the interview process and potential questions candidates can expect from an inside perspective.

Candidates are hired once they pass through the comprehensive interview process. A sense of community is fostered through recognition programs from peers and charity involvement. Successful Business Development Representatives (BDRs) are promoted internally into the Sales Team after a 12-18 month program that offers training in a number of different areas including Selling and Communication. Add to that the opportunity to be a part of a 100 Day Mentorship Program with Management and constant feedback sessions, and you have an environment with an emphasis on community and development, which is music to my ears.

Angelique Kim

Angelique Torres Kim was a Recruiter in the University Relations space in the private sector.  She is now the Associate Director of Employer Relations with Salem State University.  Prior to joining the Salem State Team, Angelique was the Employer Outreach Specialist at Endicott College within the Career Center where she built the foundation for the Employer Outreach Initiative.  She has served on the Board of the Career Counselors Consortium, Northeast and currently serves on the Road Trips to the Real World and Professional Exchange Visits Committees through the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers (EACE).  She presented during the EACE Annual Conference in May 2013.  Angelique holds her MA in Organizational and Corporate Communication from Emerson College.
