CVS Caremark Headquarters

A fresh layer of snow awaited us at CVS Caremark headquarters in Woonsocket, RI, but the warm welcome of our CVS hosts quickly put the snow out of mind.

Andrea Juliano, University Relations and Programs Manager, met the students and took us to the conference room down the hall and up two flights of stairs.  We passed the Minute Clinic and then went to a state of the art conference room.  Jessica Carella, Corporate Finance Recruiting Manager and Anthony Strong, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer met us in the conference room with refreshments. Anthony gave a brief overview of CVS Caremark and talked of the major retail chain and the pharmacy benefit management (PBM) that make up the CVS Corporation.

The six students (representing RIC, URI, Assumption and Ithaca College) heard about the organization’s history, mission and vision, and learning about the inner workings of a company that ranks in the top 100 of the Fortune 500s.  In a whirlwind of statistics, Anthony demonstrated that we were visiting the largest pharmacy health care provider in the U.S.

The majors represented included Accounting, Math, Psychology, Marketing, and Environmental Science.

The HR team of CVS spoke of many career paths and about the internship program. Anthony told us that there are 1000 Accountants working at CVS Caremark.  With revenues over 100 billion dollars, it needs a large Finance department!

cvs-caremark Jessica told the students that a range of careers is available for all majors and that CVS seeks students with drive and passion.   Kyle, an Environmental Science major, was very happy to hear that CVS hires environmental scientists to support the development and implementation of environmental compliance programs for all CVS Caremark facilities.

Andrea talked about the newly redesigned internship program which now offers real-world project work with the management team on projects that have impact on departmental goals.  There are several tracks: Professional, Retail Store Management, Supply Chain Management, and Pharmacy.

It was a very relaxed presentation, and the students had plenty of time to ask their questions and network with the CVS team.

What a student had to say about the visit?

It was very beneficial, and I got an insight into the business world that I wouldn’t normally get. I spoke with many CVS representatives and got a one up on other internship applicants!
