Winter Splash Highlights
Winter Splash Highlights
EACE Blog contribution by Sara Jaques, Assistant Director of Career Services at Stevenson University and 2014 EACE Professional Development Co-Chair
Almost 100 EACE members participated in this year’s Winter Splash series. We were originally scheduled to host 4, but the D.C./Virgina event was cancelled due to snow. Thank you to the Professional Development Committee members who hosted the events AND Carefirst for sponsoring the events. We are looking forward to expanding the series to new locations next year.
New England Area Winter Splash
Holy Cross was happy to host the first Winter Splash in New England this past January. The format was informal and conversational, with breakfast generously sponsored by friends at Fidelity Investments. Twenty five EACE members participated, representing 20 colleges and 3 companies from four different states—MA, RI, CT, NY. The morning’s discussion was lively and our schedule was rigorous as we covered nine different topics throughout the three morning sessions. Our conversations ranged in topic from student preparedness and engagement, relationship building between employers and small schools, technology and social media, to trends in career counseling and everything else in between! At the end of each session, each table reported the highlights of their conversation to the larger group so that we could all benefit from the great ideas that were shared during the course of the conversation. The morning flew by and really energized us to start the spring semester. We can’t wait to reconnect with the rest of our EACE colleagues in Annapolis in May!
Baltimore Area Winter Splash
About 25 EACE members got together at Baltimore’s Winter Splash at Stevenson University’s Owings Mills campus. The first 30-minutes were spent networking, mingling, and cheese eating. We spent the next 10 minutes narrowing down what topics to discuss. The group split up into 4 round tables to discuss working with faculty, CSM best practices, working with veterans, and new ideas for events. Conversations were casual and everyone had a chance to share and connect. At the end of the roundtables, each group summarized their conversations and exchanged contact information. A few EACE members then headed over to Bonefish Grill for dinner and drinks. The event was enjoyable and energizing. The Baltimore EACE members are getting excited for the upcoming conference in Annapolis!
